Webinar on Maritime Decarbonization Initiatives
Aimed to raise awareness for transitioning to greener operations and sustainable practices in the shipping industry, the ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ฒ (๐๐๐๐) through the ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ฅ ๐ฅ๐๐ ๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐ง ๐๐. ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ ๐ ๐๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ, in collaboration with the ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก, ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ, ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฑ๐ญ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง, conducted a seminar on โ๐ด๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โ on Thursday, September 26, in a hybrid set-up.
The seminar is part of this yearโs celebration of ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐๐ ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก (๐๐๐๐ ๐๐จ) themed โ๐ท๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐: ๐ท๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐จ๐๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐๐๐๐๐๐.โ
In his welcome remarks, Assistant Superintendent for Training, Research, and Extension, ๐๐ซ๐จ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐จ, ๐.๐๐ง๐ . underscored our responsibility in protecting our marine environment, citing for example the Philippine Port Authoritiesโ Green Port Initiatives which transforms our ports to be more sustainable by integrating renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions, in line with global standards.
Discussions on the topics of clean fuel adoption, technological advancements, infrastructure developments, and education and training requirements, the pool of resource speakers from the Academy’s international partners such as the Director of Singapore Maritime Academy, ๐๐๐ฉ๐ญ๐๐ข๐ง ๐๐ก๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐๐๐ก๐ฒ๐ฎ, Professor of the National Korea Maritime and Ocean
University, ๐๐ซ๐จ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ฐ๐๐ง ๐๐ข๐ฆ, and Assistant Professor of the Central Police University, ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ก๐๐ง ๐๐ก๐ข๐-๐๐ข๐ง๐ .
A total of 170 participants engaged in the discussion, comprising of first-class cadets alongside representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard, shipping companies, manning agencies, and the Maritime Industry Authority.

CDR Paraggua also extended her gratitude to the experts and participants for actively engaging in the seminar discussions.
This initiative is a testament to the Academyโs commitment to driving the transition towards a more sustainable maritime industry, ultimately contributing to the broader goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
